The Westville Water Plant was opened on January 1, 2001. The plant is supplied by 2 wells, each rated at 715 gpm. Vertical pumps move the water from the wells through the main building where chlorine is injected. The water continues to the aeration tank where iron and odors are removed. The water accumulates in a retention tank. High service pumps pull water from the tank and pump it through a sand filter where chlorine and fluoride are injected. The treated water then enters the service main.
As of 1-12-2016, there will no longer be any adjustments made to Water Bills.

Drinking Water Quality Report - effective for 2016
We’re pleased to present to you this year’s Annual Quality Water Report. This report is designed to inform you about the quality water and services we deliver to you every day. Our constant goal is to provide you with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water. We want you to understand the efforts we make to continually improve the water treatment process and protect
our water resources. I’m pleased to report that our drinking water is safe and meets federal and state requirements.
The Town of Westville supplies ground water from two wells. These wells draw water from the Valparaiso Moraine at a depth of 175 feet.
The Westville Water Department tested for SOC compounds in 2016 and a full copy of the results will be on file at the Town Hall office for review. The office is located at 353 W. Main Street Westville, Indiana. If you have any questions about this report or concerning your water utility, please contact Dan Anderson at (219) 785-1880. We want our valued customers to be informed about their water utility. If you want to learn more, please attend any of our regularly scheduled meetings. They are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Town Hall, 353 W. Main Street at 7:00 pm.
The Town of Westville routinely monitors for constituents in your drinking water according to Federal and State laws. This table shows the results of our monitoring for the period of January 1St to December 315‘, 2016. As water travels over the land or underground, it can pick up substances or contaminants such as microbes, inorganic and organic chemicals, and radioactive substances. All drinking water, including bottled drinking water, maybe reasonably expected to contain at least small amounts of some constituents. It’s important to remember that the presence of these constituents does not necessarily pose a health risk.
WaterQualityTestResults:
Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG): The level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MCLGs allow for a margin of safety.
Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level (MRDL): The highest level of a disinfectant allowed in drinking water. There is convincing evidence that addition of a disinfectant is necessary for control of microbial contaminants.
Avg: Regulatory compliance with some MCLs are based on a running annual average of monthly samples.
ppm(parts per million): Listed as milligrams per liter of water- or one ounce in 7,350 gallons of water= 1ppm.
ppb (parts per billion): micrograms per liter of water-or one ounce in 7,350,000 gallons of water = 1 ppb.
NA: Not applicable.
(As you can see by the table, our system had no violations. We’re proud that your drinking water meets or exceeds all Federal and State requirements. We have learned through our monitoring and testing that some constituents have been detected. The EPA has determined that your water IS SAFE at these levels.)
Some people maybe more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immuno-compromised persons such as, persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who
have under gone organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly, and infants, can be particularly at risk from infections. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800-4264791).
In 2015, the US EPA collected several samples of the Westville Water System — the following
compounds were found: Manganese, Molybdenum and Strontium. These compounds are not regulated or a violation, however. A complete copy of the UCMR (Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule) results as well as the complete copy of the SOC (Synthetic Organic Compound) results for 2016 will be on file at the Water Department Office for review.
Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL): The highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCLs are set as close to the MCLGs as feasible using the best available treatment technology. Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level Goal (MRDLG): The level of a drinking water disinfectant below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MRDLGs do not reflect the benefits of the use of disinfectants to control microbial contaminants.
